Kinja'd!!!

My watch has been missing for over a week. This whole time, I've been suspecting that my gf, who is sometimes too quick to put my things away where I can't find them, had put it somewhere and forgot about it. Well, I was wrong.

The two of us have been driving each other nuts trying to look for this damn watch. I was irritated that it was missing, but also pretty confident that it would turn up, because I knew I had taken it off either at home, or at her mom's house. She was almost more anxious to find it than I.

Last night, after she went to bed, I decided to look under the TV stand in the living room for some reason. There were a bunch of cat toys that had been batted under there, but no watch. Then randomly it occurred to me: DID I TAKE IT OFF WHEN I WAS MESSING WITH THAT LIGHT BULB ON MY CAR???

(When I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , one of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! was flickering. I spent a bunch of time wrangling my hands in there to take it out, when I found that it was just loose in its socket. I tightened it back up and it's fine now.)

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

So I went down to the garage, poked around for a bit, and sure enough, it was right there where I left it. After ~10 days sitting in the garage, it even has a full power reserve. I suppose my garage isn't very well sealed against light during the day.

Anyway, my gf wakes up a lot earlier than me, so I put the watch on the counter, along with a note.

So yes, I'm a dork because I took my semi-expensive watch off to mess with a light bulb on my semi-expensive car, forgot about the watch for over a week, secretly blamed my gf for hiding it from me, remembered where I put it while looking for it in a place it never would have gotten to, and then left a note about the ordeal.

Hey, at least I found the thing.

How do like the Citizen? I am looking at getting one when amazon has a good deal.

I loved mine right until the movement needed to be replaced just before the 5-year warranty was up. Speaking with a jeweler I know fairly well, it's a pretty common occurrence. He says he sends a lot of them back to the factory to be rebuilt for clients. I haven't had any issues with Bulovas that were a bit cheaper.

Eco-Drive is nice (particularly when compared to kinetic automatics), but the price I was quoted for replacing that movement if it was out of warranty was pretty close to the sticker on the watch when it was new.

I like it because I don't have to do anything to it. In addition to the usual Eco-Drive solar power, mine also syncs with the atomic clock so I don't have to set it. It's got a little time zone dial so when I travel, I just change the time zone and I'm good to go.

The only downside is it's a little heavy. There was a titanium version of the same watch (with blue trim where mine is red) but I didn't want to drop the extra cash for that one.

I got mine from Kohl's with a bunch of coupons stacked on top of each other. Ended up being around $375 I think. It was a couple years ago. Mine is $446.25 on Amazon right now, the titanium one is $524.25.

I've done this type of thing more than once. CRS and all its maddening effects.

You're not a dork, it was a kind gesture and I'm sure your GF was happy to see the note. Don't feel so bad, those bulb areas are so tight that it's a miracle you didn't cut your hands up messing with them so taking your watch off is obvious.

That moment you dont feel as old cause you remember what you forgot.. haha Im always testing my self in that regards. So far I've been doing pretty good.

Also I have a citizen as well, skyhawk, and it turns off when ever its been in complete darkness for more then an hour. Not sure if yours does the same. Great watches these things are. If only I can keep from banging it into everything..

I do have a couple nicks and scratches on my hands from it actually. The bulbs themselves are no big deal. The real pain is getting the stupid black plastic covers back on to the back side of the light housings. There's a relay or some other electrical thing thing hanging over the area where I needed to maneuver the cover back on to the light. I finally got sick of trying to work around the relay, so I just took it off its mount and pushed it out of the way. The stupid cover went back on relatively easily after that.

On my C the bulb covers are in a tight spot but still manageable if you have average sized hands. However on the E Class you either have to remove a similar item out of the way to get to the driver bulb cover or worse go in through the wheel well liner. German engineering eh?

Aren't you glad you only secretly blamed her? Ha!

Yes, very much so. I'll often put an item down on like a desk or ledge or something, remember exactly where I put it, only to have it disappear. But I don't want to discourage her because she's great at keeping the house looking nice.

This weekend I had to tell her to quit putting my camera stuff in random places. It's my own fault of course, because I'll take a camera thing out of the bag, use it, then not put it back in the bag, and she stashes it in one of several gadget hiding places she's created.

Finally I got sick of asking where my charger or lens or whatever got to and said if she feels the urge to put a camera thing away to please just put it in the camera bag.

I felt bad about it.

I don't think asking someone to put something away in its place, if they feel to urge to move it somewhere, is too much to ask. Just have to do it nicely - ha!

I'm pretty good at creating piles in my house, and it does drive my wife crazy sometimes...

I felt bad about it because she's created several gadget hiding places that allow the decor to look nice but me to get at my gadgets. Like wicker baskets that go on shelves so you just see the wicker basket and not the rat's nest of cables.

She just wasn't making a distinction between gadgets in general vs. camera gear in particular. So from her perspective, she was putting a gadget in an agreed-upon gadget hiding place. But she was fine with the camera bag request.

Don't count the GF out yet. Watch the movie Gaslight , then get back to me.

First thing I would have done - under the seat of the car. Everything wound up there.
